Four matches in 49 hours -- wish me luck!

May 10, 2012, 3:40 pm - (1 year ago)
Due to some rainouts and other rescheduling anomalies, I will be playing four singles matches in a 49-hour span starting this evening. I am also operating on 75 minutes of sleep today (had a long poker session last night/this morning). Will see how my 40-year old body holds up.

The first three are ladder matches; the fourth is a 3.5 men's singles match. Here are my predictions.

Tonight I play the captain of my 3.5 mixed team. I played a ladder match vs. him last summer when I first joined the ladder. We split the first two sets, then played a full third set, with him winning in a tie-break. I think I've improved significantly in match play since then. I predict a 6-3, 6-2 win for me.

Friday afternoon I play someone that was recently bumped up to 4.0. I've never met him, but he's done quite well in ladder matches over the years. We've had four common opponents. He beat the player I'm playing Thursday 6-4, 6-0; this player beat me last year 3-6, 6-4, 7-6. He beat a high 3.5 player 6-2, 6-3 last year; this same player crushed me 6-2, 6-1. He beat the third common opponent 6-2, 6-3; I prevailed 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 vs. this opponent. He beat the last common opponent 6-1, 6-3; I beat his guy 6-4, 6-1. Based on this info, I will predict a loss to him, 6-2, 7-5.

Saturday afternoon I play opponent #3 above. He is consistent but does not hit with much pace. I think I will win 6-3, 6-3. I hope it does not take too much out of me, because I have a league match three hours after the start of this match. I have no idea who I will play, but the team is among the worst in our league, so I think I will be fine.
